It is a great pleasure to sing your song (Lonesome Town). Not only does it have a great structure, but it also brings back many pleasant memories of my teenage years, and retains its poignancy even now, especially now.

One of the truly important forces in the early days of Rock and Roll, and a great singer in his own right. Everyone should get to know Baker Knight. I've enjoyed his music immensely for over 40 years.
Terry Stewart, President & CEO, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

To me the most remarkable thing about Baker Knight's songwriting is in the diversity and range of super stars who have recorded his songs. The names read like a who's who of Pop music over the past half century. I can think of no other songwriter with credits to match those of Baker Knight for diversity of style. We are very proud to recognize him and his accomplishments here at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. He is part of an incredible music legacy of talented Alabamians whose music has touched people all over the world.

Rick Nelson's records consciously avoided the overly slick production trends that characterized much of the music of the era. He played the music that he loved to listen to. Whether it was written for him by rockabilly greats or R&B veteran Baker Knight, the music was always excellent.

The fact that Rick Nelson picked so many of Baker's songs says a lot for Baker Knight. Baker was the first songwriter I associated with Rick Nelson, so indeed I feel a bond. I like almost all of his songs, but the one I feel particularly connected to is Lonesome Town. The unusual arrangement enhances it, but would never have worked if the song hadn't been so good. In my mind Heartbreak Hotel has always been located in Lonesome Town. It has been a favorite of mine for more than 40 years.
